Where is Neymar going? The transfer window remains open until September 2 in Spain, so this saga is going to rumble on.
He wants Barcelona, Barcelona want him, PSG want him to go to Barcelona. It all sounds very simple, but it hasn’t yet happened, so why not?
On the European edition of the Totally Football Show, our panel of experts provide an explanation.
“Barcelona wants to offload a couple of players – Ivan Rakitic, Samuel Umtiti or even Phillipe Coutinho can be used – as we call it in Spain – as ‘currency’, to make Neymar cheaper,” said Alvaro Romeo.
“Barcelona has been quite cryptic about bringing in Neymar in the past, saying ‘Alright, we haven’t discarded the player, we’re still thinking about signing him’, but so far nothing has happened.”
So what of the French side of this transfer? Well, it sounds like Paris St Germain are just waiting for an offer. Any offer.
“So far, nothing has arrived from Barcelona,” said Julien Laurens. “They are waiting for anything, any sort of offer from Barcelona, even a small one, even one where they offer…I don’t know – Coutinho, their secretary, their cleaner, but nothing has happened.
“PSG are saying ‘We want him to go, he wants to go to you, so just do something.
“[If nothing happens] he will have to play – you can’t keep someone you pay €32million net a year on the bench or in the reserves. Even for Neymar’s career, it wouldn’t be good for him not to play.
“The players want him to stay, but he wants to move. But if Barcelona don’t buy him, nobody else will, so he’ll have to stay.”
Anyone else fancy buying him? If only to prevent this whole thing dragging out for another three weeks? Please? Anyone?
